This message has been issued because some minor flooding to low lying land, roads and riverside areas is likely today, Sunday 11th February 2024.

We are currently seeing higher river levels than normal in response to the recent rainfall.

Areas most at risk are low lying roads and riverside areas along the River Chelmer between Thaxted and Chelmsford, including Great Dunmow.

The forecast is for continued unsettled weather with outbreaks of rain or showers at times.

Take care on riverside footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger. We are monitoring the situation.

Flood alert area: The River Chelmer from Great Dunmow to Rivermead campus and the Industrial Estate in Chelmsford.
